Glacier buys Saskatchewan Newspaper Group

Glacier Ventures International Corp. (Glacier) has acquired 92.5 per cent of the shares of the Saskatchewan Newspaper Group.

The publications acquired in the deal include the Assiniboia (SK) Times, the Carlyle (SK) Observer, the Estevan (SK) Mercury, the Estevan (SK) Southeast Trader Express, Yorkton (SK) This Week and Yorkton (SK) This Week Marketplace. The publications have a combined weekly distribution of more than 60,000.

The Estevan (SK) Mercury has been published for more than 100 years. The Yorkton trading area is the third largest in the province, reaching more than 100,000 people.

Peter Ng will continue as group publisher of the newspapers and operations, and will retain an ownership interest in them.

With the acquisition, GlacierÔÇÖs group of newspaper and magazine publications now have a combined distribution of almost 400,000 across Western Canada.

Shares in Glacier are traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol GVC.
