Newspaper editorials not restricted by Ontario Human Rights Code

The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario dismissed a complaint against the Prince Edward County newspaper County Weekly News. The case involved a 2009 hate-speech complaint made by lawyer Alan Whiteley who argued that an editorial that appeared in the paper was discriminatory against newcomers to Prince Edward County. While reading the decision, adjudicator David A. Wright referred to Section 2(b) of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which "guarantees freedom of expressions, including freedom of the press."
