Each year, the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA) honours individuals from across the province who are working hard to make a difference within their communities and around the world. OCNA describes the final 12 recipients of the 2011 Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Awards as a truly inspiring group of young people whose stories illustrate initiative, creativity, dedication and leadership evident in the youth today.
The Ontario Junior Citizen of the Year Awards are promoted through the 300+ member newspapers of the Ontario Community Newspapers Association (OCNA). A judging committee of community newspaper publishers, editors and sponsors select the final 12 award recipients.
This year, 176 nominees will be recognized with individual certificates from their local community newspapers. The final 12 recipients will be awarded at a presentation ceremony in March 2012.
