Postmedia and The Ottawa Citizen receive the 2013 Michener Award

Postmedia and The Ottawa Citizen have been announced as the winners of the 2012 Michener Award for outstanding public service journalism. The news organizations were honoured for their diligent investigative reporting on the automated telephone “robocall” scandal that took place during the 2011 federal election campaign.

Citations of Merit were presented to La Presse, Toronto Star, Vancouver Sun, Halifax-based independent weekly The Coast, and the Canadian Broadcasting Company and Société Radio-Canada’s Enquête.

The awards were presented on June 18 at Rideau Hall in Ottawa during a special ceremony hosted by the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada.

Postmedia and The Ottawa Citizen also received a Press Freedom Award from the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom earlier this year for the same investigative work
