Catherine Wallace wins Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy

Catherine Wallace, a 37-year veteran of the newspaper industry, is the recipient of the 2016-2017 Atkinson Fellowship in Public Policy.

Wallace plans to investigate the state of Canada’s news media and explore sustainable business models for newspapers through potential partnerships and policy options that will help “feed and fund” the industry. Wallace was the managing editor of The Gazette in Montreal from 2010 to 2014 and has also worked in newsrooms at the Toronot Star and The Globe and Mail.

First established in 1988, the annual Atkinson Fellowship provides a seasoned Canadian journalist with $100,000 to pursue a yearlong investigation into a current policy issue. This award is a collaborative project of the Atkinson Foundation, the Honderich Family and the Toronto Star.
