Local information is the top reason for reading

The printed community newspaper is by far the favourite source of local news and information in communities large and small across Canada.

Research from 2016 shows that 95 per cent of printed community newspaper readers choose local information (including news, editorial, sports, entertainment and events) as their main reason for reading. And two thirds (67 per cent) cite advertising (flyers, insert and ROP advertising) as their next highest reason for reading printed community newspapers.

The Community Newspapers Drive Results study finds that printed community newspaper readers are engaged; they are more likely to closely follow all types of news, particularly local news, most of the time, and time spent with a community newspaper is virtually unchanged compared to two years ago.
