Newspaper readership remains strong

Since 2012 News Media Canada has been measuring readership of all types of newspapers in the Newspapers 24/7 study. The 2019 results show that Canadians are still reading newspaper content, across print and digital platforms.

The first study found that 85% of Canadians read some type of newspaper over the course of each week. By 2019, that number has increased to 88%.

With the rise of digital platforms (computers, smartphones and tablets) digital access to news has boosted readership to almost nine out of ten Canadians.
