Ottawa Valley newsman reflects on 50 years in the industry

Jeff Maguire marked a half-century in the business this fall. And he says he doesn’t have a single regret.

Recently, the Carleton Place Almonte Canadian Gazette published a special look back on Maguire’s storied career – from how is late father founded the Stittsville News community paper in the late 1950s to his 28-year tenure at the Canadian, where he remained publisher until February 2004.

Maguire continues to write a regular column today for Metroland Media’s now merged Carleton Place Almonte Canadian-Gazette newspaper.

“I sure enjoyed the business and never wanted to do anything else. It opened so many doors for me,” Maguire said in the piece. “You get to know everybody in your community and they get to know you. I have no regrets.”
