COMING SOON: Nominate your local Champions!

Inspired by the essential service that members of the media provide, News Media Canada’s 2023 Champions Of The Truth program is doing what news media does best: celebrating the power of words and telling stories.

As part of National Newspaper Week 2023, we will launch a first-ever illustrated book, Champions, celebrating notable Canadian journalists, editors, photographers, and publishers from the Canadian news media Industry. The book will feature the incredible stories of 25 notable Canadians from the newspaper industry who are Champions Of The Truth in their own right in a relatable, easy-to-read, bilingual publication with custom illustrations by a Canadian artist.

What makes someone a Champion?

We’re looking to highlight individuals from the newspaper industry (past or present) who are true Champions Of The Truth, whose work has positively impacted their communities, and who are encouraging the next generation of industry trailblazers.

All nominees will be evaluated by an independent selection committee based on predetermined criteria, including:

  • Strengthening Canada’s news media industry and inspiring the next generation.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to sharing informative, truthful, and factual news with their communities.
  • Contributing to community public service (i.e., an industry pioneer, introducing new programs impacting the Canadian news media industry at large, or a long-standing commitment to their community).

Nominations will open soon, and we need your help finding Champions to honour.

We’re looking forward to sharing more news with you about this soon!
