About the Extra Awards
The Extra Awards celebrated outstanding advertising in the news media industry and were held annually until 2015.
The Extra Awards began by celebrating newspaper advertising. But newspapers now offer so many other opportunities for advertising and promotion. The awards were expanded to include all digital offers as well as other innovative solutions such as newspaper run events, email programs and more.
A panel of judges was selected from the Canadian advertising agency community each year. They provided their expertise and insights to determine the industry winners which were awarded Gold, Silver, Bronze or Honourable Mention. A Best of Show ad or campaign was also chosen and featured as the best work undertaken that year.
2015 Extra Award winners
The 2015 Extra Awards celebrated outstanding advertising in newspaper media: print, online, tablet, mobile and more. The 2015 judges decided to simply award “Winners” to honour the outstanding creative, rather than the traditional Gold, Silver and Bronze awards that were given out in the past.
Rethink won the most prizes with three wins for their outstanding work on Splashdown Waterpark, United MMA and Canadian Fair Trade Network. While Leo Burnett Toronto, FCB Toronto, Cossette and LG2 each won one a piece.
