CPF Update: Aid to Publishers forms expected by end of 2014

A number of association members have expressed concern that application forms for the Canada Periodical Fund’s Aid to Publishers funding program are not yet available. At a December 4 meeting with the Department of Canadian Heritage, Newspapers Canada was informed that the Applicant’s Guide and Application Form for the 2015-2016 funding cycle will likely be available before the end of the year, or possibly at the start of the new year. The application deadline will be revised to give publishers four to six weeks to apply.

Newspapers Canada has conveyed members’ frustration to Heritage officials, and we appreciate your continued patience. We will contact all members directly via an emailed member bulletin once the application forms are available. Canadian Heritage will also contact all previous recipients via email.

In the meantime, we encourage publishers to gather information in preparation for the application process. Use last year’s materials as a reference point to begin collecting the necessary data to apply to the program. Canadian Heritage assures that there will be no changes to the Applicant’s Guide or the Application Form.

The Aid to Publishers component of the Canada Periodical Fund provides financial assistance to paid-circulation non-daily newspapers and paid- or request-circulation magazines. Eligibility and funding amounts are calculated using a circulation-based formula.
