CCNA past president Joyce Carlson announces her retirement

Joyce Carlson, founding publisher of The Peak in Powell River, B.C., has announced she will be retiring in the New Year. Carlson has been in the newspaper business for more than 40 years and founded the Powell River Peak in 1995. Prior to that she worked for the Powell River News for close to 20 years and served as publisher of the Gulf Islands Driftwood.

Carlson sat on the board of directors of the British Columbia and Yukon Community Newspapers Association (BCYCNA) for 25 years and served as BCYCNA president from 1989 to 1990. She also spent nine years as a B.C. representative on the Canadian Community Newspapers Association (CCNA) board and held the role of CCNA president from 1994 to 1995.

 

Carlson has earned numerous awards throughout her career, including the B.C. Community Achievement Award and the Margaret Hennigar Award in honour of her years of exemplary leadership.

Jason Schreurs, The Peak’s current editor, will be taking over as the paper’s new publisher on January 1, 2016.
