Canadians trust the news media more than government

An Ipsos study released last year found that 77% of Canadian adults believe news reports from the news media more than reports from the government (23%).  More than two thirds of Canadians (69%) also expressed a great deal/fair amount of trust in traditional news media.

News media provide a trusted, credible environment for information and advertising that digital media and social media lack, particularly in the wake of the Facebook scandal in which Cambridge Analytica gained access to personal data from 50 million Facebook users.

This concern is reinforced by a recent editorial published in The Globe and Mail that discussed how an Ontario MPP recent attacked his local newspaper, the Mississauga News. You can read all about that here.
