Catch up on OCNA’s Spring Convention and awards

The Ontario Community Newspapers Association produced another successful annual conference and awards ceremony last week.

The day was filled with interesting and informative speakers including Sylvia Stead, Public Editor, The Globe and Mail; Giovanni Capriotti, award winning Photographer; Caroline Medwell & Pam Portt of OCNA/AdReach; OPP Commissioner Vince Hawkes and “13 ways to Kill Your Community” author Doug Griffiths. Also included was an Ontario election prediction by Marcel Weider and Craig Hughson of Aurora Strategy Group.

The convention concluded with the 2017 BNC Awards Gala. Awards were handed out for the 8 General Excellence Categories and 49 Premier Categories. Sara Hershoff, Publisher of the Creemore Echo, received the 2017 IBC Community Award in memory of Mary Knowles. Congratulations to all the winners!
