Information Session for Publishers: Promotion Prohibitions for the Cannabis Act

In anticipation of the September 14, 2018 information session hosted by Health Canada with respect to the prohibitions surrounding the promotion of cannabis, cannabis accessories and services related to cannabis contained in the Cannabis Act and its Regulations, please find attached background information on the Act.

The presentation entitled “Canada’s Public Health Approach to the Legalization and Regulation of Cannabis” provides information about how the legislation aims to protect public health and public safety, including protecting the health of young persons by restricting their access to cannabis, protecting young persons and others from inducements to use cannabis and enhancing public awareness of the health risks associated with cannabis use.

The Fact Sheet on Cannabis Act Promotion Prohibitions and accompanying slide deck (Promotion Prohibitions deck and Canada’s Public Health Approach deck) provides information on a number of prohibitions related to the promotion of cannabis, cannabis accessories and services related to cannabis, as well as some exceptions for limited promotion.
