CCNA announces Canadian Pacific Railway Better Newspapers Competition finalists

CCNA announced the finalists in the national Canadian Pacific Railway 2002 Better Newspapers Competition (BNC) this morning on its web site, in 68 classes of competition.

The complete list can be found at www.communitynews.ca/bncawards and by clicking on the link at the top of the page. The association received 2,552 entries from 288 member newspapers in this annual, peer-judged competition.

Of the 2,552 entries, 119 competed in the General Excellence competition, and were forwarded to CCNA from competitions held earlier this year by CCNA’s seven regional affiliated associations. The General Excellence awards recognize outstanding achievement in overall newspaper publishing and are considered the most prestigious of the awards given out each year. All General Excellence finalists receive a Blue Ribbon award. Winners are awarded the coveted Page trophy for Best All-Round Newspaper, Best Front Page, or Best Editorial Page.

Finalists are listed in alphabetical order under each category name and circulation class. Final results will not be revealed until the awards presentations are held on July 4, 2002, at the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel, Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The BNC awards presentation is a highlight of the annual CCNA convention. Finalists are encouraged to attend and are eligible to access earlybird convention registration rates which had expired on June 1. Known as the Gathering of the Clans, the 2002 convention is a joint event co-hosted by CCNA and the Atlantic Community Newspapers Association, and will take place from July 4 to 6. More information on the convention and an online registration form can be found at www.communitynews.ca/convention2002 .
