Wallaceburg News ceases publication

Wallaceburg, Ontario’s The Courier Press, which is operated by Sun Media Corporation, revealed on October 10, 2007, that it is now the only newspaper serving the community. The Wallaceburg News ceased publication on October 12 and merged its Friday edition with that of the Chatham-Kent Citizen, which will offer a new advertising feature called the Wallaceburg Marketplace.

In the press release from The Wallaceburg News, publisher Daryl Smith said, “Although we have enjoyed high readership within the community and recognition from industry peers, The Wallaceburg News has not provided a sufficient return as a business for the resources invested.”

The Wallaceburg News was part of the Osprey Media newspaper group, before the chain was purchased by Quebecor Inc. in August of this year.
