One Year Later: the Liberal government’s record on transparency

25 October 2016 @ 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

What is the Liberal government’s record on open government after its first year in power? What are its plans for reforming the Access-to-Information regime?

On Tuesday evening, Oct. 25, Treasury Board President Scott Brison will join Information Commissioner Suzanne Legault and Carleton University Professor Mary Francoli for a discussion on access-to-information and open government. The hour-long event, moderated by CBC journalist Dean Beeby, is being organized by the Canadian Committee for World Press Freedom and hosted by iPolitics at its York St. offices.

In his mandate letter to ministers after taking office, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau instructed them to “set a higher bar for openness and transparency in government.” And he tasked Mr. Brison specifically with reviewing the Access-to-Information Act to give greater power to the Information Commissioner and widen its scope to include ministers’ offices and administrative institutions.

Our speakers will assess what progress has been made on those commitments.

Who: Treasury Board President Scott Brison, Information Commissioner Suzanne Legault, Carleton U professor Mary Francoli, and CBC journalist Dean Beeby.
