Alberta Press Council shuts its doors

The Alberta Press Council ceased to exist effective December 31, 2019.

The Alberta Press Council, which has been in operation since 1972, was an independent self-regulating body that encouraged public awareness of the press and its role, and facilitated conflict resolution between the public and member newspapers.

Publications who are interested in continuing to be members of a press council should contact the National NewsMedia Council of Canada. With the support of the Alberta Weekly Newspapers Association, all former members of the Alberta Press Council are being offered membership in the Media Council for a special introductory membership fee.
