CAJ releases first round of finalists for its annual awards

The Canadian Association of Journalists has revealed the first round of finalists for its 2011 awards program. A number of Canadian newspapers are represented in the various reporting categories including the Ottawa Citizen, Edmonton Journal, Toronto Star, Winnipeg Free Press, Montreal Gazette and the Hamilton Spectator.

Over 100 journalists submitted a total of 126 entries for this year’s competition. The finalists in the remaining categories, including the Open Newspaper and Community Newspaper categories, will be announced later on this week.

The winners in each category will be revealed on Saturday, April 28 at the CAJ Awards gala  in Toronto, part of the 2012 CAJ conference at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The Don McGillivray Award for the best ‘overall’ investigative report for 2011 will also be announced at the banquet.
