The Globe and Mail leads finalists for National Newspaper Awards

Twenty-five news organizations are among the list of finalists for the 63rd annual National Newspaper Awards competition. The Globe and Mail leads the pack with 24 nominations, followed by the Toronto Star with nine, The Waterloo Region Record with five and La Presse in Montreal with four.

The Winnipeg Free Press picked up three nominations while The Canadian Press, Edmonton Journal, Halifax Chronicle-Herald, London Free Press, Postmedia News and Reuters received two nominations each.

There were 1,350 entries in this year’s competition for works that appeared in the 2011.

The winners will be announced at the National Newspaper Awards gala in Toronto on Friday, April 27 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel during the INK+BEYOND newspaper conference and trade show.
