Three Canadian newspapers nominated for Online Journalism Awards

The Globe and Mail, The Vancouver Sun and the Toronto Star are among the international finalists nominated for the 2011 Online Journalism Awards. The annual awards, administered by the Online News Association, recognize major media, international and independent sites and individuals producing innovative work in multimedia storytelling.

The Globe and Mail has been nominated in the General Excellence in Online Journalism category for its website.

The Vancouver Sun has been nominated in the Breaking News category for its coverage of the Stanley Cup hockey riots.

Toronto Star’s Life on the Line has been nominated in the Online Video Journalism category. The UBC Graduate School of Journalism’s International Reporting Program was also nominated in the Online Video Journalism category for a web project titled “Cheap Shrimp, Hidden Costs.”

The final winners will be announced at the 2011 ONA Conference and Online Journalism Awards Banquet on September 24 in Boston, Massachusetts.
