CPF launches new funding program for digital periodicals

The Canada Periodical Fund (CPF) of the Department of Canadian Heritage recently launched a pilot project to encourage and support the development of digital periodicals. The CPF will provide up to $5,000 in start-up funding to help aspiring or emerging digital publishers and other creative entrepreneurs launch or lay the groundwork for a periodical that will be uniquely accessible through a digital platform.

Funding will be project-based, and applicants will be required to contribute at least 50% of project funds. Preference will be given to applicants who raise the necessary funds through successful crowd-funding campaigns.

Applicants must be a developing business that has not yet established commercial operations or a business that is in the earliest phase of established operations.

Additional eligibility criteria :

  • The business is (or will be) majority owned and operated by Canadian
  • Canada is (or will be) the principal place of business
  • The periodical is (or will be) digital only
  • The periodical consists (or will consist) of an average of at least 80% original Canadian editorial content
