CJF to host roundtable on press freedoms and media regulation

On, October 20, the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) will host a forum in Toronto titled Fallout from Phone Hacking: Do We Need Regulation? During this roundtable discussion, industry experts will cover issues of freedom of the press, public trust, journalistic accountability and media regulation.

Panellists: John Honderich, chair of Torstar and former publisher of the Toronto Star; John Owen, journalism professor at City University in London UK and former head of CBC Television News; and Brian Myles, journalist at Le Devoir and president of the Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec.

Moderator: Jamie Cameron, professor at York University’s Osgoode Law School.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. Tickets are $15 or free for students with valid ID.
