INK+BEYOND 2011: Meet the reporters covering the conference

As in previous years, Newspapers Canada has invited a number of students and graduates from local journalism schools to help cover our annual conference. These volunteers will be posting updates and news stories to the INK+BEYOND site throughout the duration of the conference.

 

Celia Leung has just finished the post-grad journalism program at Langara College. She has a bachelor’s degree from Simon Fraser University in psychology and English. She was a reporter and editor for Langara’s campus paper.

 

 

 

Jenifer Norwell is a freelance journalist and broadcaster who has completed the journalism program at Thompson Rivers University as well as the broadcast program at BCIT. She has earned several awards for her work including a BCYCNA scholarship award. She has worked for the CBC and also private broadcasters as an announcer, producer and researcher.

 

 

Lena Smirnova is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and is currently working on her master’s degree in journalism at UBC. Her work experience includes an internship with The Globe and Mail and communications work for the Department of Foreign Affairs. She will be working in Russia this summer for the Moscow Times.

 

 

Kendall Walters was top student in the undergraduate journalism program at Thompson Rivers University. Now she’s completing her master’s in journalism at UBC. She has written for three different newspapers and freelanced for The National Post.

 

 

Benjamin Yong is a Langara College journalism graduate who has written for the Richmond Review and other publications. He writes about the arts, automotive and fashion and blogs at http://benjaminyong.ca/
