On May 9-10, Newspapers Canada held its first all-media Credit Conference in Mississauga, ON. All media were invited to attend, including representatives from newspapers, TV, radio, magazines and outdoor. During the two-day conference, delegates shared their opinions on a variety of topics and common challenges related to credit while a range of industry experts offered their insights on new credit and collection software development.
- Gord Jamieson, the head of risk and fraud at VISA, gave an eye-opening presentation on the latest developments from the “bad guys” (about $900 million annual fraud in Canada) and covered management issues regarding problem employees. Jamieson also offered advice on creating training programs for non-credit staff.
- Denise Tucker shared Metroland’s Customer Focus Management Training module in a presentation that was both useful and entertaining
- Cam Reston, vice-president of the PHD/OMD network, offered his perspectives on credit from the agency side.
The feedback from participants was very positive and plans are already underway to develop the conference program and discussion topics for next year’s event.
