Metro adjusts its digital strategy to focus on larger markets

Metro, Torstar’s free commuter daily, has closed its digital properties in seven cities across the country: Hamilton, Kitchener, London, Regina, Saskatoon and Victoria and Windsor. Metro is ceasing operations in these smaller markets to focus on larger urban centers. "We experimented with these markets and the results that we got indicated that going digital-only as a business model just wasn’t viable there," said Torstar spokesman Bob Hepburn. Metro will continue to publish news stories online in the seven cities where it still distributes print editions: Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver.
