Philadelphia papers to offer discounted tablets for subscribers

Philadelphia Media Network, owners of The Philadelphia Inquirer or Philadelphia Daily News, has announced plans to subsidize the cost of Android-powered tablet for people willing to also buy one- or two-year newspaper subscriptions at a discount.

Each device will come preloaded with four news apps including two that offer replicas of the papers’ print editions. The pilot project is slated to launch in late August.
