Longtime Toronto Star journalist Val Sears dies at 88

Longtime Toronto Star feature writer Val Sears passed away last week at age 88. A lifelong newspaperman, Sears spent time in newsrooms across the country, working at The Canadian Press, the Toronto Telegraph and later the Toronto Star. He held numerous roles at the Star including Ottawa bureau chief and foreign correspondent in London and Washington, D.C. and earned a National Newspaper Award for Feature Writing in 1979.

Sears later left the Star to become a columnist for the Ottawa Sun from 1998 to 2005.
