National Newspaper Week Idea Generator

Feeling stuck for how your publication can participate in this year’s National Newspaper Week activities?

Fear not! We’ve got you covered. Every week, we’re sending out to members a weekly digest of ideas. Here’s a couple for you to consider for this week.

Idea #1 – NNW Op-Ed Pieces

View our selection of op-ed pieces written especially for National Newspaper Week. You are welcome to publish any of these free-for-use pieces verbatim or use them as inspiration to write your own.

We hope you will consider running a National Newspaper Week themed op-ed piece in your newspaper during the week of October 1 to 7 and also share some or all of your op-ed piece on your own social media channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram) with the program hashtags (#NowMoreThanEver; #NewspapersMatter).

Idea #2 – National Newspaper Week Editorial Cartoon

News Media Canada has commissioned an editorial cartoon specifically for National Newspaper Week.

Nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist Patrick LaMontagne has created an exclusive cartoon highlighting truth in journalism. His current clients can choose to use this cartoon during the week of October 1-7, and he will also offer community newspapers special pricing for one-time use.

Contact Patrick directly at: cartoon@cartoonink.com to obtain high-resolution artwork for publishing.

Idea #3 – Journalist Influencers

Engage your journalists and editors along with their own social networks. We would like to encourage journalists to share their passion for newspapers through their own social media channels. The goal is to have our journalists support the Newspapers Matter campaign with a caption that reinforces why newspapers matter – now more than ever – and that drives their followers to newspapersmatter.ca to pledge their support. Don’t forget the program hashtags (#NowMoreThanEver; #NewspapersMatter).

We all need National Newspaper Week to make an impact. Now more than ever. And we can’t do it without you.
