Newspapers Canada opposes ‘Right to be Forgotten’

Newspapers Canada is proud to lend its support to the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) on their work on the ‘right to be forgotten’ file.

“In light of the foregoing considerations, we concluded that rectifications or erasures of information on the basis of right to be forgotten claims would not directly concern newspapers,” says an informal letter submitted by the association to France’s Commission nationale de l’informatique et des libertés.

This letter provides excellent background on the right to be forgotten policy that has gained significant attention in the European Union. Click here to read the submission in its entirety.
