Postmedia has appointed Darren Murphy, a longtime leader at The Peterborough Examiner and other Postmedia papers, as its new vice-president, advertising – community markets, effective Sept. 1.
Murphy returned to The Examiner as publisher in 2012 after serving as vice-president of advertising for the Toronto Sun, 24 Hours and torontosun.com. He was also appointed regional advertising director for the chain’s papers in Eastern Ontario, including Northumberland, Trenton, Belleville, Brockville, Stirling, Pembroke, Picton, Napanee, Ottawa, Kingston and Cornwall. He would later add Northern Ontario papers, including Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins and North Bay, to his duties.
