Former Edmonton Journal opinion editor remembered as a ‘man of ideas’

David Evans, the former opinion editor with the Edmonton Journal, recently died from pancreatic cancer. He was 68 years old.

Evans worked at the Journal for 15 years, arriving as an editorial writer in 1997 and rising to opinion editor before retiring in 2012.

In that time, he was twice nominated for a National Newspaper Award.

Evans, who had degrees from the University of Toronto and England’s University of Sussex, was a reporter at the Ottawa Journal before it closed in 1980.

That was followed by 17 years at the Ottawa Citizen in various editor positions.
