Pamela Steel wins Insurance Bureau of Canada Community Award

Ontario newspaper editor Pamela Steel is the winner of the 2014 Insurance Bureau of Canada Community Award in Memory of Mary Knowles. Steel is the regional news editor for three Metroland newspapers in the Muskoka region: the Gravenhurst Banner, the Bracebridge Examiner and the Huntsville Forester.

The Ontario Community Newspapers Foundation (OCNF) selected Steel as this year’s award recipient in recognition of her strong leadership and community contributions. Steel serves as president of the Community YWCA of Muskoka and is an industry leader and community role model. She will be invited to accept her award during the Ontario Community Newspapers Assoction BNC Awards Gala on Friday, May 22 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.

The Award is coordinated by the OCNF, with generous support of the Insurance Bureau of Canada. It is named in honour of Mary Knowles, a dedicated newspaper employee and active community member who died from breast cancer in 1996.
