Print subscriptions on the rise for two Quebec newspapers

Two Quebecor-owned daily newspapers have seen hard-copy subscriptions increase over the past year despite the challenging economic climate for print media. Le Journal de Montréal and Le Journal de Québec are reporting a collective growth in their print subscriber base by 10 percent (approximately 16,000 additional subscribers) from 2014 to 2015. This increased demand for newspaper subscriptions may be related to competitor La Presse’s decision to discontinue its weekday print edition.

Last year, Le Journal de Montréal and Le Journal de Québec became the first French-language media in Canada to sign up for Facebook’s Instant Articles product, an interactive tool that allows publishers to share dynamic multimedia content on the social media platform.

”We will continue to give the readers the choice to get the news on all our platforms,” said Lyne Robitaille, senior vice president, newspapers at Quebecor Media Group. “Thanks to our diverse and comprehensive offering, we are also able to meet our advertisers’ specific needs and effectively reach their target consumer.”
