FOI Audit to be released during RTK Week in September

Newspapers Canada will release its seventh annual National Freedom of Information (FOI) Audit and related materials during Canadian Right to Know Week, taking place September 24- 28, 2012.

The annual FOI Audit provides a unique opportunity to compare the performance of institutions across Canada. A team of auditors in each province requested the same information across all three levels of government, and have tabulated the scores of the various government departments. The results of the audit are presented in an accountability report card, revealing which government departments are lagging when it comes to being open and accountable to Canadians.

The launch of the 2012 FOI report coincides with the seventh annual Canadian Right to Know Week. A series of events will be held across the country in order to raise awareness about people’s right to access government information and freedom of information as an essential part of both democracy and good governance.
