New Brunswick axes access to information fees

Private citizens will no longer pay fees to file right-to-information requests in New Brunswick. Following a decision by the provincial government, the public will not be subject to fees for records searches, data processing, photocopying and courier costs.

However, the new Act will require a larger amount of personal information—including the applicant’s name, mailing address, e-mail, telephone number and the name of the business the search is conducted for—in order for the request to be eligible.

The changes took effect on August 2.
