Newspapers will attend masked-man hearing

Despite appeals, no media outlets will be excluded from the hearing of a Chinese man who boarded a flight from Hong Kong to Canada in disguise. Dan McLeod, duty counsel for the unnamed refugee claimant, requested that a number of Chinese-language publications be barred from the hearing. He argued that Canadian newspapers Ming Pao Daily News and Sing Tao Daily, which is partly owned by Torstar, should be excluded from the proceedings because they may be under the influence of Chinese state authorities.
