We are pleased to inform you that the 2019-2020 Application Guidelines and application form for the Aid to Publishers component of the Canada Periodical Fund (CPF) is now available. Applications can be downloaded from the Government of Canada website here. The deadline to submit an application is November 24, 2018.

City officials are pitching Calgary's city council on dropping local newspapers for some types of advertising. According to the report, the city council's planning and urban development committee heard that newspapers are no longer hitting the mark for the city for its public notices.

The 2018 Code of Silence Award for outstanding achievement in government secrecy was awarded to Niagara's regional government in a ceremony held earlier this week. The Code of Silence Award is jointly given by the Ryerson University's Centre for Free Expression, the Canadian Association for Journalists, News Media Canada and Canadian Journalists for Free Expression.

The Winnipeg Free Press has been nominated for five prestigious EPPY Awards, which recognize journalistic excellent. It was the only Canadian news organization to received nominations this year.

The Canadian news media industry has joined forces with WAN-IFRA to support a new capacity building programme to strengthen the sustainability of innovative media from the Arab region. Media Mentoring Programme (MMP) Arab Region matches media companies with senior newspaper executives for in-house and virtual mentoring on business planning, audience engagement and revenue generation and diversification strategies.
