After a half decade as the publisher of the Brandon Sun, Jim Mihaly has decided to leave his post in order to move back to B.C. with his family.
Mihaly penned a ‘goodbye’ column for readers last month.
“I wanted to take the time to say that it has been an honour and a pleasure to serve as publisher of a newspaper that has been an institution in Westman for nearly 140 years,” he wrote.
But he also departed with a few important thoughts that echo ongoing challenges in the industry.
“I would urge local businesses not to take all of their marketing dollars out of traditional media because someone tells you it’s the way to go. Get the facts and explore what you have locally in terms of media outlets and their effectiveness.”
His message about ‘supporting local’, whether that’s in the form of businesses, community organizations, or newspapers, is a poignant one.
