Public Affairs

News Media Canada acts as an advocate in public policy to enable newspapers from coast to coast to speak with a unified voice in promoting newspaper interests to governments, regulators and the general public. These interests include such issues as freedom of the press, telecommunications, taxation, employment standards, postal affairs, environmental matters such as recycling, freedom of information, privacy, copyright, access to the judicial system, electoral laws and defamation.

News Media Canada ensures that national and local members are properly represented and positioned to access and understand the associations’ positions on any issues arising from government initiatives or legal cases.

For information on policy issues, contact Paul Deegan, President and CEO, at pdeegan@newsmediacanada.ca.
