Anti-Spam Webinar

On July 1, 2014, the majority of provisions within Canada’s Anti-Spam Law (CASL) took effect. The regulations require businesses to have recipients’ consent in order to send commercial electronic messages, including emails. There are potentially serious penalties for companies that do not comply with CASL including monetary penalties up to $10 million per violation.

There are a number of things that newspapers may need to do to in advance to ensure that they are adhering to the CASL. All organizations are advised to assess their readiness and ensure they have a compliance strategy in place.

In April 2014, Newspapers Canada hosted a webinar presentation with speakers from Industry Canada and the CRTC to help our newspaper members better understand what they need to do to get ready for the new law.
