Similkameen Spotlight purchased by Black Press

The Princeton (BC) Similkameen Spotlight has a new owner. Princeton’s award-winning community newspaper has been sold to Cariboo Press (1969) Ltd., part of B.C.’s Victoria-based Black Press Group.

“Princeton is our kind of town,” said Cariboo Press president Don Moores yesterday while announcing the purchase, “and the Spotlight is a top quality small-town paper with an excellent staff. We believe the town has a bright future and the Spotlight fits well with our other publications in the region, such as Merritt, Penticton and Summerland.”

Readers won’t see much change with Princeton’s newspaper-of-record, Moores added. “Under Geri Swanson’s direction, the paper has shown solid growth this year and we expect that to continue. She’s doing an excellent job.”

Founded in 1948, the Spotlight has had only a handful of owners over the years and has won a number of provincial and national awards.
