Manitoba community newspapers are among the best read in the country. ComBase, the most comprehensive readership study of its kind, released results for the province November 15 in Winnipeg and November 16 in Brandon.
For the markets measured, the best way to reach people is through their community newspaper.
Seventy-eight percent of adults surveyed for the study read a community newspaper in the past week. Additionally, 27 percent of those people don’t read a daily newspaper and can only be reached through their community paper.
The study also highlighted that Manitobans are not easily reached by broadcast media ÔÇö 42 percent reported being light radio listeners and 56 percent were light television viewers.
The next wave of Manitoba results, which will include community newspapers from Winnipeg, Portage La Prairie and Headingley, are due out in autumn, 2005.
