Awards for the 2008 Better Newspapers Competition were presented during the Canadian Community Newspapers Association’s 89th annual conference in Toronto on Friday, May 9 while television and radio host Ralph Benmergui entertained the crowd.
The Salmon Arm Observer swept their General Excellence class, taking home all three Page awards for Best All-Round Newspaper, Best Front Page and Best Editorial Page, plus the Best Ad Design award. Two other newspapers walked away with four awards in multiple categories, including the Bridgewater Bulletin and Gulf Islands Driftwood.
The Macleod Gazette was the only other paper to sweep their General Excellence class in 2008.
The 2008 edition of the BNC Winners Book is available for download. Print copies have been mailed to the attention of newspaper publishers.
