In Nova Scotia, Brace Capital, an investment firm led by Halifax Chronicle Herald owner Sarah Dennis, has purchased the assets of Casket Printing & Publishing Company for an undisclosed amount. The transaction includes a number of commercial printing companies and two weekly newspapers: The Quad County Extra and The Antigonish Casket. The Casket, which was previously owned by the Roman Catholic Church, has been in business for 160 years and is one of the oldest continuous weeklies in North America.
"We’re happy to be able to keep such an important and historic piece of Nova Scotia’s history in the hands of an independent Nova Scotia company,” said Dennis in a written statement following the transaction. “We look forward to continuing the strong tradition of local news coverage and advertising and printing solutions The Casket and its subsidiaries have provided readers and businesses in the region.”
