The nominees for the 67th annual National Newspaper Awards have been revealed. The Globe and Mail leads all entrants at this year’s competition with 19 nominations. La Presse has seven nominations, the Toronto Star earned six, the Winnipeg Free Press has five, and the Ottawa Citizen received four nominations.
Other organizations with multiple nominations include The Canadian Press with three, and the Brandon Sun, Hamilton Spectator, Montreal Gazette, National Post, Reuters and the Saskatoon StarPhoenix with two each.
At this year’s NNAs there were a total of 66 nominations in 21 categories, selected from 1,100 entries for work published in 2015. Twenty-three news organizations have been nominated as finalists, with eight out of 10 provinces represented.
The winners of the 2015 National Newspaper Awards will be announced at an awards ceremony in Edmonton on Friday, May 27 during Newspapers Canada’s national conference.
