The well-known cultural critic, and former columnist with The Catholic Register, passed away suddenly on September 19, while on a walk with his friend, Philip Marchand.
Originally a teacher, Mays decided to take up writing shortly after marrying Globe and Mail columnist Margaret Cannon. Mays had a decorated career as a writer, winning a National Newspaper Award and the National Magazine Award’s President’s Medal. In 1998, he was part of the founding cohort of The National Post.
The Catholic Register has posted a story that reflects on Mays’s career as a journalist, author, and intellectual. You can read it here.
