The Member Spotlight is a Newspapers Canada initiative to showcase unique, creative, and innovative ideas among members. We hope that this initiative will give members a broader scope of the industry by allowing them to see what other publications are working on, foster creativity, and offer a platform on which to display the product of their own hard work.
We invite you to send us the ideas and initiatives you’re excited about, as well as the fun and interesting things you’re developing, and allow us to share them with other members.

This month’s Member Spotlight feature is a Holiday Edition entitled “Christmas Greetings 2015” from the Flin Flon Reminder in Manitoba. This feature was published on December 23, 2015, just in time for the holiday.
“Christmas Greetings 2015” placed first overall in the Best Holiday Edition class with circulation up to 3999 category (Class 2221). The category judge called it an “outstanding section,” and that “all departments should be commended on a great effort.” The judge went on to say that it “looks like there was a lot of communication amongst the staff which resulted in a well-rounded and complete section. Great, cheery layout, really liked it.”
This section features a great deal of community involvement: from creative short stories, to poems, to drawings – it was great to see people of all ages taking part. This holiday section was very much made for the community by the community, with the team at the Flin Flon Reminder leading the way. On page B14, the reader gets a little behind-the-scenes look at how many submissions the Reminder received, and how tough it was to choose the ones to feature in the section.
Congratulations, Flin Flon Reminder.
