To engage and inspire the next generation of readers, the Campbell River Mirror partners with a local teacher to feature student contributions in a regular feature, the Carihi Mirror.
For the last five years, during the school year, the Carihi Mirror makes up a page or two of news that is written by students, for students, helping them to connect with their community.
Carihi teacher Nic Pisterzi sees the partnership with the local community newspaper as a way to inform the students about what is happening in their community.
“They also need to learn what a credible news source is rather than something they just see on Facebook. I think there’s some learning about critical thinking that needs to be passed on to these kids, and this can play a role in that.”
